Moutain Valley Farm
Wow - what a find! Richard found this Organic farm right around the corner from the cabin. When you pull up to the farm store, you think you're in another country. It's nestled in this beautifully lush valley, there are free range rabbits (I was told I could eat one if I could catch it), and baby farm animals hanging out just outside the store (pictures below). The food was great - Dad pointed out it was twice as much, but I think it was worth it. We landed some bacon, steaks, eggs, and beef sausage links that we devoured that weekend.

USGS Data
The USGS data and charts are really great too. Several 7 day lag charts are available, although I find their "discharge" chart very suspicious as it is the same shape as the height chart.
Total gauge height:
Total Discharge per second (hold on, the discharge and the height are exactly the same? I smell a bug on their site):
Precipitation Gauge:

American Whitewater has a great site on the Cartecay river (and others) with

4/20 Weekend
We've started our plans for the 4/20 weekend. So far the only RSVPs are Richard, myself, and the Oakleys. Dee Dee and Piper are maybes.
We've settled on a theme of chicken dishes, with a theme drink of margaritas. This is subject to change. Updates will be posted here.

President's Day Weekend
Frank, Dee Dee, and Piper took Cooper and Rocco to the cabin for the long President's Day weekend - although it turned out to be a short two day trip. We all took a book, all finished a book, watched some movies, and enjoyed the mostly rainy mountain weather.
We ate at Charlie's - quickly becoming our family favorite. Slow service, good food.
We found a dead scorpion in the cabin. Not sure if we brought it in - it definitely was not there at one point earlier the same day, so it is likely either a human or a dog tracked in the carcass.
In addition to decimating an old can of peanuts, and chanting "one shot, one kill", Piper and I worked on 12-24" groupings at 100 yards.
I'm being a little conservative here as it was an unscientific experiment. We used a submerged rock in the Cartecay that was approximately 24" in diameter as the target, and fired from the main parking area - it almost precisely 300 feet between these two locations, and the elevation declines from the parking area to the river at least 50 feet (maybe more). We used iron sights and discovered we had to aim approximately 1.5 inches above the target - but you got a nice visual and auditory confirmation when the 22 caliber pellet hit the water. We were using a Gamo Silent Cat pellet gun with a suppressor.
